Nothing has made me grow as I have done, if it weren't for doing. I believe a lot in the power of words, affirmations and mantras: being in that mental state where you feel that you are capable is wonderful, but what happens if everything stays in thoughts and there is no action?
I remember reading books like The 4 Agreements a few years ago, a book with wonderful and enriching content for personal well-being. I was excited about what I read, it made me believe that everything was going to be better, but I finished the book and nothing happened; no change came knocking on my door.
It was 27 years of my life buried in negative emotions, suicidal thoughts, drugs, alcohol, lack of emotional control, and prioritizing the interests of others over my own. As I write these lines, I remember part of my past and consider that many of the things I experienced were unnecessary, but now I am able to look at myself with compassion because I understand that I was operating from a lower level of consciousness.
Now I understand why we often stay in positive thinking, waiting for the miracle to come knocking on our door: we are cowards. I have been a coward and surely you have been too. The art of doing consists precisely in getting up from the chair, leaving fear at home and getting ready to do what will help you grow mentally, physically and spiritually.
How did I learn how important the art of doing is for transformation processes to be successful? In November 2022, in the middle of treatment for depression, I changed psychiatrist (a separate story, but the one who was treating me did not make me feel good). At the end of that first session, I heard the words that allowed me to understand that everything is in doing: "Nicolas, you know well what you want, what happens is that your actions contradict what you want to achieve." That was what my new psychiatrist told me. 15 minutes after leaving that session, I had what I call an awakening of consciousness.

I finally understood that I wasn't going to achieve anything if I continued with those feelings of sadness and negativity. The change depended on me. I started reading books and taking notes of what I was discovering, I started writing in a journal, I forced myself to participate in new scenarios and my reality was gradually transformed. I understood that, for a change process to be successful, you have to be brave and get used to leaving your comfort zone, to face your fears, win your battles and advance in your personal growth.
It is normal that when you decide to act, you face things that you won't know how to solve at first or that you identify a fear that you didn't know existed. But that's where the magic happens, because you will learn to overcome obstacles, find the tools and develop the skills that will lead you to that higher version of yourself.
As a coach, I recommend that you act. Nothing will change in your current reality if there is no action, if different things don't happen:
Do you want physical health? Set a schedule in which you will do some physical activity and stick to your plan 🙂.
Do you want to believe in yourself? Recognize who you are, ask people for feedback, understand your areas of improvement and act 💪🏻.
Do you want another job? Analyze your strengths, build a speech and go out and sell yourself 😃.
Do you want to fall in love? Get ready to meet new people who will lead you to others, and magic can happen 😍.
Do you want to stop feeling sad? Identify and accept why you feel sad, make a list of your sources of happiness and learn to transform your days 🥳.
And so it is with everything you want to achieve: let go of fear, learn to get out of your comfort zone and fall in love with the Art of Doing.
